Kingspan Kooltherm is a range of products of premium performance rigid phenolic insulation boards made for walls, roofs, as well as floors.

Rigid phenolic insulation is very beneficial as it is the most thermally efficient insulation that is commonly available.

This board uses as thin as possible insulation boards to achieve the required insulation values. It is also as fire resistant as mineral wool which makes it very safe. Its closed cell structure resists both moisture and water vapour ingress – problems which can be associated with open cell materials such as mineral fibre and which can result in reduced thermal performance. Unlike mineral fibre, it is unaffected by air movement which will prevent it from experiencing problems which will reduce its thermal performance. It is very safe and easy to install – masks are not required, as Kingspan Insulation products do not produce loose dust or irritable fibres. Finally, like all Kingspan products, the Kingspan Kooltherm range is completely CFC/HCFC free and has Zero Ozone Depletion Potential.

Another great form of insulation is polystyrene insulation which comes in both extruded and expanded polystyrene. Extruded polystyrene is used to insulate homes as it is much more effective than expanded polystyrene. Expanded polystyrene is typically used for packaging materials, and to insulate appliances. Polystyrene insulation is what the Kooltherm range of insulation products are made of. These products are great for interior or exterior wall insulation as well as roof and floor insulation, and finally, basement insulation.
Cellulose insulation is a great method of insulation that is the most environmentally friendly product on the market. Since insulation reduces the amount of energy needed to heat or cool a building, it is environmentally friendly. Since cellulose is made from recycled newsprint and other paper sources which might otherwise end up in landfills and release greenhouse gases while it decomposes, it is the “greenest” product. If our world was to change every piece of paper that is being put into landfills into cellulose insulation, eight million tons of carbon dioxide emissions would be saved. To visualise this, imagine removing every car in New Mexico and Nevada off the road. That is the equivalent of 8 million tons of CO2. Fibreglass uses ten times the amount of energy that cellulose does, and foam insulation uses sixty-four times the amount of energy. Cellulose insulation is installed by blowing it into the wall cavity and then making it smooth. The only disadvantage of cellulose insulation is that it requires you to hire a professional so as not to injure yourself.

Kingspan Kooltherm products are great for insulation due to their low price as well as effectiveness. However, they are simply average when it comes to environmentally friendliness. The true powerhouse when it comes to being environmentally friendly is cellulose insulation. It takes our paper waste, and makes it into something to heat our homes. However, Kingspan Kooltherm can be used for roof, wall, ceiling, and floor insulation, whereas cellulose can only be used for wall and floor insulation. The type of insulation you use depends on your needs.
